Party

Psychedelics in Western culture have been closely linked to party scenes, from the 1960s’ flower power gatherings to today’s electronic dance music (EDM) festivals. In the ’60s, LSD (acid) was popular among hippies. In contrast, today’s raves and EDM events feature a broader array of substances, including “shroom drops,” MDMA, and ketamine. These are often used to enhance sensory experiences and foster a deeper connection to the music and crowd.

However, using psychedelics in high-energy party environments carries significant risks:

  • Mixing with Other Substances: Combining psychedelics with alcohol, stimulants, or other drugs can lead to unpredictable and dangerous reactions.
  • Sensory Overwhelm: The intense stimuli of parties—flashing lights, loud music, and large crowds—can turn an otherwise positive experience into a negative one.
  • Impulsive Behaviors: Psychedelics can lead to risky behaviors, resulting in harm or legal issues.
  • Pressure and Impaired Consent: Peer pressure can lead individuals to take psychedelics against their better judgment.
  • Unanticipated Psychological Effects: The use of psychedelics can bring up repressed memories or feelings, causing anxiety and distress.

Tips for Party Settings:
  • No mixing: At parties there are usually many psychoactive substances present. If you take psychedelics, don’t mix them with other substances.
  • Don’t use alone: Parties are often not the ideal setting for psychedelics due to the unpredictability of the experience. So, if you’re determined to take them at a party, please don’t do it alone. Surround yourself with trusted friends and know where you can go if the party vibe gets too much. Many festivals now have safe spaces where individuals can go if they feel overwhelmed. Familiarize yourself with these locations and services.
  •  Trip-support: If possible, have a friend who remains sober and can intervene if the experience becomes too intense or assistance is needed.
  • Plan Your Transportation: Never drive under the influence of psychedelics. Arrange for a designated driver, taxi, or rideshare service.
