The Bottom Up: using experiential knowledge

Using experiential knowledge to improve harm reduction services

This project aims to improve the quality and accessibility of harm reduction services in the Netherlands, by strengthening the voice of people who use drugs. Together with experts by experience, we’re investigating how current services function and where improvements are needed. To this end, we will use a tried and tested method in which participants themselves collect and analyse data about their experiences with harm reduction.

The project focuses on two cities in the Netherlands, where we conduct community assessments together with 8-10 experts by experience. These assessments will help policymakers and healthcare institutions understand what needs to change in order to better tailor care to the needs of users. The results are converted into concrete products. The project contributes to increasing the self-organisation of a target group with often misunderstood behaviour, and to improving harm reduction facilities in the Netherlands.
